Students will follow, with support, a simple Design and Make process considering each step in the process and how they interact to ensure a successful outcome.
They will be introduced to:

Safety in the workshop
• basic hand tools
• machine tools
• component assembly
• acrylic paints

Students in Year 8,
Design Context Appreciating others needs/wants
Design Problem Personalised birthday gift
Design Brief  Design and Make a personalised Tea light holder
Materials  Metals
Clients   An adult friend / family member

Students will follow a Design and Make process with specific emphasis on client information & feedback, and learning a number of ways of planning a complicated manufacturing sequence.

Students in year 9,
Design Context School shop
Design problem Suitable product to sell
Design brief  Design and Make a clock suitable for mass production
Materials  Plastics
Clients   The school community

Students are beginning to look at products for the open market and considering the conflicting demands on designers to produce products that will sell in sufficient numbers with profit margins a priority. Students are introduced to the concept of mass production and how computer aided design and manufacture makes this possible.
