Resistant Materials

 

Time allocation: 3 lessons per week

Syllabus & Number:      GCSE Design and Technology: Resistant Materials (4560)

 

 

Course content:

A practical subject area merging both Designing and Making which will require the application of knowledge and understanding when developing ideas, planning, producing products and evaluating them.

Year 10 – building up on the core skills work from Key Stage 3

Year 11 – Controlled Assessment task (coursework) and preparation for the written exam

Assessment: Unit 1 (45601) Written Paper – 2 hours – 120 marks – 40%

                   Candidates answer all questions in two sections. Pre-release material issued.

Unit 2 (45602) Controlled Assessment Design and Making Practice - approximately 45 hours – 90 marks – 60%

Consists of a single design and make activity selected from a range of board set tasks undertaken in normal school time.
