Our Day Out by Willy Russell
Teign School Production 2009
Teign School Drama Department chose Willy Russell’s classic play ‘Our Day Out’ for their 2009 Production Drama.

The play centres around a school trip to Conwy Castle in North Wales. Mrs Kay teaches a remedial class for illiterate children, called the "Progress Class". The whole class, along with Digga and Reilly, the slightly older class bullies who used to be in the Progress Class, are taken on a coach trip. At the last minute, the Headmistress commissions Mr Briggs, the authoritarian Deputy Headmaster, to supervise the trip.
Craig Churchill (Co-Director/Acting Head of Drama) ‘The play involves a whole host of technical challenges with the stage transforming into a bus, a beach, a castle and a funfair which have been great fun to direct. The cast worked really hard on this superb play with great enthusiasm’.
Hayley Webb (Co-Director/Drama Teacher) ‘The play involves the whole cast being on stage at all times which has been a real challenge but creates a very powerful effect. I have been most impressed with how the cast handled the shift between the comedic and more tragic serious moments in the play.’
Public performances took place at 7.00pm on Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th January 2009 in Teign School Drama Hall.
